The Game:
Statecraft is simple -- it's a d100 based play-by-post roleplaying game where you all play nations. Each week corresponds to six months of in-game time, and once a week, you send me your plans, roll the dice. I'll resolve the actions of each country based on your own plans, and your competitors actions, as well as random events. It's purpose is to collaboratively create a world where we can someday play a sci-fi tabletop in.
Your Character:
You are the leadership of a major world or regional power -- a state, engaged in the dangerous balancing game of statecraft. You have 6 attributes, that correspond to your military, economy, natural resources, technological prowess, national morale, and international influence. You also have 18 skills -- 3 associated with each attribute. The skills will be listed at the end of the email, along with the basic steps of character creation. Your country will grow, or shrink, change governments, ideologies, and priorities. The only thing constant in this game will be those basic truths of international relations -- power wins, and comes in many different forms.
Basic Mechanics:
The attribute scores are derived from your rank in various global indexes, and the skills are calculated by multiplying your ability score by your skill rank (ranking a skill as number one gives you 7 points, ranking it as 2 gives you 5 points, and ranking it as 3 gives you 2 points. Then you add the benefits of your government, and miscellaneous factors, which will emerge during gameplay. So essentially it's (A)(R)+G+M=Total.
When you want to preform an action, you roll under your skill's percentage. So if you wanted to deploy troops into the Crimea, you would roll a deploy check, and try to shoot under a 64. If you roll over, you might still successfully deploy, but suffer some losses, or lose the element of surprise. A bad enough failure might lead to your initial advance being turned back altogether. You can send me your plan as a simple bullet point, or you could send in a longer plan and get miscellaneous bonuses (or even penalties, depending on what your opponent has planned!).
What To Do:
If you haven't made your state yet:
1. Pick your state. Available states are: US, Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, Egypt, Turkey, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, India, China, South Korea
2. Rate your skills, 1-33 (highest to lowest) in each of the following sets:
[Deployment, Intimidation, Espionage]
[Revenue, Aid, Industry]
[Extraction, Refinement, Conservation]
[Innovation, Exploration, Health]
[Unity, Propaganda, Campaigning]
[Culture, Diplomacy, Ideology]
3. Pick one skill that you'll especially focus on
Once your state is made:
1. Receive a character sheet from me.
2. If you want, send around whatever roleplaying introduction you'd like
3. Send me a random number, between 1 and 100.
4. Receive the game's opening post from me!
Every turn after:
1. Send me a random number, 1-100 (random event)
2. Do whatever diplomacy you'd like with other players
3. Send me six actions -- one for each attribute. These can be long, detailed plans, or just bullet points.
4. Send me the dice rolls for each action
5. Wait for the report, and feel free to roleplay in the meantime!
One quick rule -- to make this game fair and fun, just cc me in all your in-character communications, and don't metagame. The reason I need access to what you guys are saying is because sometimes, people will do espionage checks -- and what you say might get found out. Feel free to encrypt, if you so desire.
Remember, in this game, "failing" a check won't automatically mean you fail. It might just mean that things go very differently.
Let me know if you have any questions!
